Discover the Social Thirst for Theater in the 19th century
In 1846, Maroun Naccash, a merchant, returned to Beirut from his trip to Europe, bringing back with him a passion for theater. He then presented his first play, a musical, titled ‘Al-bakh?l,’ in 1847. It was the seed of the rebirth of theater in Lebanon and its foundation throughout the entire Arab world.
After Naccash, the remainder of the 19th century witnessed plays blossoming in every corner of Lebanon. The passion for theater caught fire.
